about

Carnegie Mellon University is hosting an invite-only conversation on the future of responsible AI and autonomous physical sciences. Recent community conversations have highlighted the enormous potential of generative AI, cloud labs, and autonomous scientific experimentation to accelerate the scientific discovery process.

These technologies are advancing rapidly, presenting significant opportunities as well as challenges, particularly in regard to safety and security. Thoughtful and deliberative dialogue is needed to consider what specific actions can be taken in the very near term to accelerate AI development for autonomous science in the physical sciences, while ensuring safety and security. These discussions will be under Chatham House Rule: In order to increase openness of discussion, anyone who attends is free to use information from the discussion, but is not allowed to reveal who made any particular comment.
