Dear participants in “From Quarks to Cosmos with AI”,

We are looking forward to seeing you (virtually) very soon! The next major announcement you receive should be the “schedule for the day” message on Monday July 12, the first day of the conference.

For now some additional organization updates – to also be reflected on the conference website (https://events.mcs.cmu.edu/qtc2021/)

Reminder of special Monday schedule:
Monday’s schedule begins 30 minutes earlier than the other days, with an introduction to computing at the Pittsburgh Supercomputing Center (PSC) for those engaging in the data challenges, followed by a 10-minute intro from the conference organizers. We are looking forward to seeing you at 10:30am US Eastern time on July 12 (for those attending the data challenges) or 10:50am for those attending plenaries only!

Passwords:
We are using Zoom for plenary sessions and for tutorials/discussion associated with the data challenges, and Gather.town for social time. You will need a password to access all Zoom and Gather.town links posted on the public website. The password in all cases is * – which you can remember by thinking of “Quarks to Cosmos” followed by the year.

Data challenges:
More information is now available on the data challenges tab at https://events.mcs.cmu.edu/qtc2021/data-challenges/ which will continue to be updated on Monday July 12 as well.

Slack:
We’ll use Slack for ease of communication among the conference participants during the conference; this is especially important for the data challenges. Please use https://join.slack.com/t/aiphysics/shared_invite/zt-sp46qj41-zVDLkwk3mQLCgnrMsqgiUg to join the Slack workspace.

For your convenience, here are links to the Zoom meeting for the plenary as one password-embedded Zoom link xxx and to Gather.town https://gather.town/app/Y3L9cknpDJqruODh/AIPhysicsCMU (use the same password *).

We’re looking forward to seeing you all soon –

Best, Rachel Mandelbaum & Manfred Paulini, on behalf of the organizers (Tiziana Di Matteo, Mikael Kuusela, Ann Lee, Rachel Mandelbaum, Manfred Paulini

Dear “Quarks to Cosmos with AI” participants,

Welcome to day 1 of the conference! We’re very much looking forward to today’s plenary talks including lively Q&A; social interaction time; and the data challenges. Here’s a quick guide to the day, drawn from the schedule on our website. If you’ve not joined the conference Slack workspace yet, we encourage you to do so using this invitation link, for ease of interaction with other conference participants.

Special activities for day 1 only: We’ll start at 10:30am US Eastern time with a guide to use of the Pittsburgh Supercomputing Center (PSC) for the data challenges, on the plenary Zoom. This will be followed by a 5-10 minute introduction from the conference organizers starting at 10:50am.

Plenary schedule for day 1: On the same (plenary) Zoom, we’ll kick off the conference today with two plenary talks:
11am US Eastern time: Kyle Cranmer (NYU), “Explorations at the Physics-AI Interface”
12-12:15pm: break
12:15pm: François Lanusse (CEA Saclay), “Blurring the Line Between Deep Learning and Physical Models”

Social time: From 1:15-2pm US Eastern time, we’ll have a social break on Gather town (password: *). Please join, chat with other participants, and take the opportunity to use the tables that are set up with games.

Hackathon: Those participants who signed up for data challenges are invited to join the hackathon from 2-4pm US Eastern time. For today, many of the data challenges will begin at 2pm with an informal presentation from or discussion led by the organizer(s) of that challenge. Please check out the data challenge tab on our website to find out which challenge you’ve been assigned to, and to learn how to join the dedicated Slack channel and Zoom meeting for your challenge (all Zoom passwords are *).

Looking forward to seeing you soon –

Best, Rachel Mandelbaum & Manfred Paulini, on behalf of the organizers (Tiziana Di Matteo, Mikael Kuusela, Ann Lee, Rachel Mandelbaum, Manfred Paulini)

* Passwords have been removed from this page.  Conference participants can check their emails for the passwords.
